On-site labs provide same day dentures
If you're in the market for a new set of dentures, you may be hesitating going to your dentist. After all, with most dental offices you're going to need to wait weeks and sometimes months, before you can get your set of permanent dentures. Whether you're looking for a full set of dentures or a partial set, considering a clinic that can provide same day dentures is definitely something you should do.
There are dental offices that have invested in their own on-site lab. This is great for many reasons, but if you wear dentures, you benefit because they can offer permanent same day dentures without you needing to wait the weeks, or months, traditional dental offices may require.
Another benefit of using a clinic with an on-site lab is that your dentist has further control over the quality of your dentures. Since your dentist is the one who hired, and works on a daily basis with, the lab staff, he knows their work intimately and has a further stake in the quality and comfort of your dentures.
Discuss Same Day Dentures with Your Dentist
Your smile is one of the first things others notice about you. If you need to have some, or all, of your teeth removed, you should review your dentists' previous work. While it can be hard to tell your family dentist that you want to use someone else for your dentures, denture creation is a specialized practice. And it's not just taking care of your teeth anymore, it's recreating your entire smile. Dentists that provide same day dentures often specialize in dentures because they have an on-site lab, which is a huge investment for them.
This on-site lab is great for you because you won't need to wait weeks or months for your permanent dentures to be created. You can get your dentures the same day you go in to get impressions taken. If the costs seem prohibitive, you should ask if they offer a discount for waiting a few days. You can often reduce the price of your dentures significantly by electing to wait three to five days. While this may be somewhat uncomfortable for you, the price reduction is often worthwhile. And, if you're working, it's easier to take a few days off and get that price reduction than going into work for 3-4 weeks – or months, while waiting for your new set of dentures.
All in all, you should talk to your dentist about your denture options and price differences. There are options out there for you – whether you choose same day dentures, few day dentures, or regular dentures.
Caring For Your Dentures
Caring for Your Dentures
Dentures are very delicate - whether you choose to have them made the same day or wait a few weeks. Caring for your same day dentures is extremely important and very easy. Here are a few things you should keep in mind.
- Never drop your dentures. They're very delicate... put them in a safe place when they're not in use and keep dentures away from children and pets. When cleaning your dentures, be sure to do so over a soft cloth or a washbasin full of water.
- Always clean your dentures daily with a soft brush and a mild cleanser - either a denture cleanser or even mild handsoap or dishwashing liquid!
- Never use hot water to clean your dentures. This can cause them to warp. Instead, use cool or lukewarm water with a mild cleanser.
- Never use hard brushes, abrasive cleaners, powdered household cleaners, or bleaching agents to clean your dentures. All of these can cause serious damage.
- Always put your dentures in a denture cleanser soaking solution or water to keep them from drying out and warping.
With the proper care, you can keep your same day dentures looking and feeling great for a long time.
Denture Repairs: When To Call Your Dentist
If you already have dentures, you have made a huge investment in your smile and the health of your mouth. It's really important not to try and make any repairs to your dentures yourself. You can cause more damage to your dentures or can cause irritation, sores, or damage to your mouth if something goes wrong.
When you experience any of the following, call your dentist immediately. It may seem to be easier, and faster, to repair small damages yourself; but you need to contact a professional.
- A loose denture. This is usually quickly and easily fixed with an adjustment of the fit. This is usually caused because your gums and bones shrink... it's completely normal but must be taken care of early on. If a loosely fitted denture is not taken care of quickly it can cause gum irritation and mouth sores.
- Gum or mouth irritation or sores in the mouth. This can indicate a poor fitting denture and it's imperative to get this fixed before further damage is done to your mouth.
- Chips, cracks, or broken pieces off the denture. This damage can cause serious injury to your mouth. You should not wear your dentures and see a dentist immediately.
- Loosened teeth or significant wear of the teeth in the denture. While this may not need to be fixed immediately, you should call your dentist and let them know. Loosened teeth may be able to be fixed quickly and inexpensively, while significant wear may indicate a new denture is needed.
A dental clinic with an on-site lab that offers same day dentures may be able to help you make the repairs to your dentures more quickly than your normal dentist. Call both your dentist and a same day dental clinic to see how quickly you can get your dentures repaired.
